How to optimise your LinkedIn profile.

Optimising your profile on LinkedIn to achieve your goals is extremely important in helping you achieve your goals.

In this post I will be giving a few basic tips for optimising your profile.

Why do I need a good profile on LinkedIn?

A good profile is essential in optimising your LinkedIn. Your profile is the first thing that people see when they go on your LinkedIn, its their first real impression of you.

So, what should you do?

1: Have a good profile picture.

The most important thing about a profile picture is that your face takes up a large portion of the photo. Check out this page to see LinkedIn's very own recommendations when it comes to profile pictures.

2: Make good use of your headline.

I see some many students who have their headline as “Student at University of Strathclyde” or “Crew Member at McDonalds” or something similar. Instead, tell the people who view your profile what you’re interested in.

Here's mine:

3: Optimise your About page.

You have a HUGE section on your page you can use to tell people about yourself. Tell them what your goals are, your past experiences and your skills. It might seem like this is like a copy of your CV but its not, its so much more than this. You can be creative in this section and tell a story. It gives you the opportunity to share your personality with anyone who visits your pages.

4: Have everything up to date!

This is such a simple point that so many people miss out. Please have up to date information on your LinkedIn, when information is not up to date it just seems lazy, and doesn’t look good to potential employers/clients.

5: Endorse and get endorse:

On LinkedIn you are able to give recommendations/endorse people you have worked with in the past. This is a great way to share the love and build connections with others. If you have worked with someone in the past, ask them to endorse you on LinkedIn. Anyone who visits your profile can see these endorsements (if you set it that they can), so these can really make you look good!
